Ruger 357/9mm Convertable
« on: February 16, 2007, 08:08:52 AM »
Does anyone have one?  If so, which of the 3(.38,.357 or 9mm) shoots more accurately?  Any other experiences would be appreciated.

From what I have been told that when you load 9mm it is not as accurate out of this ruger combo.  You will have better groupings with the 357 and 38.  I have a few shooting buds and they have the ruger 357/9mm and 45lc/45 acp convertables and they used the other cylinder just a few times.  They mostly shoot the 357 and 45lc.  One of my friends have since sold their 9mm and 45acp cylinders at gunshows because they never used them.  Some people do and like them, but from what I have been told from my buddies they are not the greatest.  Just my two cents.

That's about it.  My 9mm cylinder sits in the box.  Completely different POI from the others. At least the 38's and 357's hit close.

I had recently purchased a new Ruger 45 Colt/45acp Bisley Acusport and I had been running some reload tests in the 45 colt.  I've got some good and some not too good accuracy with the 45 colt.  Last week, I decided to take with me to the range, the 45acp cylinder and some Winchester factory 230 gr BEB and I've just run one group of 5 shots for velocity test and one group of 5 shots for accuracy.  I was really supprized of the results.  The velocity averaged 855 FPS and the second five-shot test yielded a 1" group with 4 out of five touching.  I was very happy with that.

I shoot 9mm in both of mine with darn good results. I have both barrel lengths, and the cheap Wolf 9mm ammo is great for CAS practice. If you want to shoot really small groups, then use the .357 cylinder. But I wouldn't ever get rid of the 9mm cylinder. It's good cheap fun.

On mine, the 9mm doesn't do real well with lead bullets - jacketed are a lot better.

I get better results with jacketed bullets as well.

I just bought one in a 6-1/2 inch barrel.

And as Old Griz says.. the 9mm is just good cheap fun.
I shot some 124gr. 9mm's and the point of impact is the same as 158gr. JHP's in 357.
This is going to be one fun gun.

Ruger 357/9mm Convertable rechamber?
« Reply #8 on: March 21, 2007, 04:38:42 AM »
I was just thinking of another option for the spare cylinder, maybe they could be rechambered back to the rimmed cartdridge and made more accurate since the acp/luger are smaller a more careful cut could be made back to 357/45colt.  I dont have time this morining to look at the exact size of the rounds but should be pretty close.

Just and idea.  Dont know if it is anygood.  What do you all think?

My personal experiece has been that the .357/9mm combo is quite variable as to results, one works, the next won't.  The .45 combo seems to produce consistantly accurate results.  Even my old Christy Gun Works cylinder for my Colt SAA is a kick.
