Great .223 ammunition price
« on: March 16, 2007, 01:11:00 AM »
My wife and I were in Myrtle Beach,SC the past few days and while we were there I got a chance to visit the relatively new Bass Pro Shop.Browsing thru the ammunition and lo and behold they had Remington/UMC .223 with 55 Gr. bullet for $4.99 a box. This is the same stuff that Wal Mart sells for $6 something a box.I bought several boxes and probably should have gotten more.
I did notice that they had no Winchester white box.

Last night I tried to buy a couple of boxes of Winchester white box at my local Wal-Mart and they didn't have any.  The sporting goods guy (been there a long time) said they aren't going to carry the WWB any more.  I bought a box (20rds) of the Remington/UMC 45gr JHP for $9.95.  I am going to be doing some shopping now.  I did see on www.remington.com that they offer the UMC 45gr JHP in 50 and 200 round boxes.  I'll have to see who handles them.

Found some Remington 55Gr MC, Green Box, at Sports Authority for $5.99 yesterday. Same stuff was $7.99 at Dick's Sporting Goods. Bass Pro has the UMC 45 gr advertised in their latest flyer for $65. for 250 rounds. Just don't have a Bass Pro nearby.

I am unhappy that WalMart is not selling the white box Win 223 any more. I handload, but I get lazy. At those times I shoot the white box. It does much better in my gun than the UMC (.75" vs 1.5" @ 100yds).

No offense to anyone.........this is a pretty much beating a dead horse...........Winchester doesn't MAKE the white box 223 anymore.  It isn't that Wal-Mart decided not to SELL it.  There is NONE to sell.

I have seen WWB in several stores but they were all the 55 grain. No 45 grain.

This is a dead topic, but from the shops around me the word on wwb in .223 is the war.  Most of my local shops are telling me that they make that ammo in runs and it won't be done again until the military demand is taken care of.  I can still find the wwb in other calibers and for my pistols, but not in .223.  I don't think they would stop making there most popular and probably best selling ammo for no reason.
