Rimmed cartriges in Handi Rifles
« on: March 27, 2007, 12:20:37 AM »
I prefer rimmed cartriges in the Handi Rifle due to past experiences with stuck cases with rimless cartridges.  Specifically the .243 winchester and 7/08.  Never had a stuck case with rimmed 30-30, 22 Hornet and 45-70.

I would like to have a 243 Bull barrel. Do not seem to hear as many complaints as there used to be.  Has this problem been fixed?

H&R has started to go to all extractors not ejectors to fix this problem also a good chamber polishing will solve most of the stuck cases with the older barrels .

I had two Ultra 308s and two Handi 243s that I finally gave up on due to stuck cases and poor groups. No amount of chamber polishing, ejector enhancement, o-rings or chants would correct the problems. I suppose the newer style extractor would correct the sticking cases issue, but to me this also removes a lot to the Handiness. Then, on the other hand, I have a Ultra 25-06 that has out shot my Remingtons and Brownings 25-06s. Go figure!!
