Your Best 44 mag load
« on: February 13, 2007, 02:24:14 AM »
Hey Guys and Gals,
So I just started getting into reloading and I was wonder what loads any of you have used in your DW 44 mags. I know it will vary based on Cylinder gap, Barrel length and such. I was just wondering where to start. I am looking for an accurate round for general purpose shooting and maybe some hog hunting later this year. Right now I have been using H110 22.5gr and a Magtech SJSP in 240gr. I hunted last fall with the Federal 300gr Castcor round and it worked OK, but I would sure like a more accurate round. Yes I realize that this will also depend on me and my gun, but was just curious what you all were using. The gun I have is a DW 44 (Monson) and it has an 8" barrel. It also has a custom muzzle brake barrel nut (thanks to my Brother) so recoil is not a problem.

Moderator move this to reloading if you would like but I really was looking for some DW specific loads.

Thanks everyone.

Robb

Hello Rob,
I've got a few at my finger tips.
240gr. SWC, 17.8gr. Blue Dot, Winchester Large pistal primers, W-W Sup. brass, OAL=1.603.
200gr. RNFP  17.0gr   HS-7,     Winchester Large pistal primers  W-W Sup., OAL=1.60"
200gr HP/XTP 14.4gr SR4756   WLP                                      W-W Sup., OAL=1.610

They work for me in my 744 w/8.5" barrel DW.

I hope this helps

Happy shooting
