Short barrel Marlins

Anybody have real time experience
with the 18 1/2 barrel Guide Gun
Marlins as opposed to the regular
20-22 inch barreled versions as
far as any difference in loading
and hunting?
I wouldn't think there'd be too
awful much of a difference, but
you never know. . .

that would be the 44p. P for ported. I had one. It was a very cool little rifle but it wasnt all that accurate. Especially with heavier bullets. It was probably a 2-3 inch at 50 yard gun. I dont think it ever shot a group smaller then 4 inch at a 100. I should have kept it anyway because what id use a 44mag carbine for is thick woods hunting and in the swamps here shots are measured in feet not yards. Now personaly im not all excited about marlin being bought by ruger. Some of the worst crap that made it past an inspector and into my hands came from ruger. But if they produced that gun Id  have to buy one.

Should have been more specific
I should have said the 45/70- 444
short guide guns the old Marlin
company sold built on the 336
model instead of the 44's built
as 1894's
I know somebody that has the
Remington made version in 45/70
and really likes it a lot , but has only
"killed " targets. Probably the best
Remington built Marlin I've seen.
This one I was asking about shows
to be a 2000 built by the serial
number.

i owned 3 4570 guide guns and 2 444 outifitters and clements did me a 17 in custom on a 4570 cowboy octagon and case hardened the receiver lever and hammer. If were dreaming how about a blued walnut case hardened 16.5 octagon 4570 or 444. Heck a 94 in 44 mag just like that would be cool too. One big problem would be it sure wouldnt be cheap.

Shoots good enough with my loads
for the 444 Handi
I wasn't sure about the shorter barrel.
Now I'll have to get some dedicated
brass and tickle the load for the gun.
Should do well with the whitetails
and swine if they come back around
