NK prefixed recievers
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:28:45 AM »
Have one in .223 and was notified when the barrel program started that NK recievers could not get other bbl.s.Anyone know why?Mine shoots so tight I had to put a 6-24x40 target scope on it to get the full potential out of it,,,shoots S&B ball into postage stamps out of a dry bbl. all day,,,hates Horny Varmint Express 55 gr.
Also,,has anyone actually SEEN any of the 7x57 rifles,,,thats what I am after.
THANXX

If you check the FAQ section there is an explanation for which receivers can get acc. barrels, I think it is HN or NN or later. somebody here will help with more detailed reasons than I can.

Any frames made prior to 1999 can only be fitted with the barrels in the accessory list that aren't marked with asterisks*(high pressure rounds), although no frame made before 1987 can be fitted with barrels at all. See the FAQs for additional info on mfr year. K= 1996, so only lower pressure cartridge barrels can be fitted to it.

??? ??? the.223 is not exactly low pressure ??? ??? I wondering if it is  more of a breech thrust consideration mated with side exspantion dynamic in a minimally tapered case ??? ???

Correct, bolt thrust is the critical issue. ;)

There doesn't seem to be a simple answer to that one.
I think backthrust causes more problems for a breakover than pressure alone.
Some people even have old guns chambered for rounds that can't be fitted to there guns at the factory.

Some people even have old guns chambered for rounds that can't be fitted to there guns at the factory.
That's because the current frames are much stronger than the older pre '99 frames, give Gordon a call at H&R and see what he says about em. I have several older frames, I won't put a high pressure barrel on any of them for the same reason H&R won't fit * marked barrels to them, this even includes my '96 RMEF 35 Whelen, it's on a late model frame and the RMEF frame sports a .45-70 barrel.  ;)

What's Ruger got to do with H&R?? H&Rs are all built in house in, see the factory tour video in the FAQs or call Gordon at H&R, toll free number is also in the FAQs. ;)

The .444 Marlin will be available shortly, only instead of the obsolete 1:38" twist of the original, they'll be 1:20" broached rifled, this week or next, by the owner of H&R, Marlin. I have a frame there right now ready to be fitted with a barrel and checkered camo lam stock set!! ;D

The 7x57 is rare to find, I know MSP and Cheatermk3 both have em here, I have a 7x64 Brenneke as do a couple others here.

well quick,,now that I think on it,,the way I got it was H&R learned the way to invest cast for hi pressure or somethin' like that from Ruger,,but thats been awhile back anywho.I saw my first .444 handi 5 year ago at a gunshow and thats when I first saw the Gibbs Frontier Carbine in .45/70,,thats why the .444 stuck in my mind,,,I really like the .45 colt Carbine but for the caliber.........now a .444 or .45/60,,,thats somethin' else again!!!! :D :D As for a 7x57, I may have to get a 7/08 and ream it out,,might have to go to an AI,,just as long as the cases say 7x57!! ;)

H&R/NEF were having Ruger cast their recievers up until a few years ago, I don't know if they are still doing it or if H&R took it over, but I do know for a fact, that Ruger was casting them. And yes, Quick id right, I do have a 7x57 Handi, and it's fantastic!!!. The 7x47 barrel is a long story but in the interest of brevity, I was at the factory having a bit of work done on a gun and inquired about several things, one a 7x57 and the second  a ML barrel. No luck on the ML barrel but I had left my name and number and about a year later got a call inquiring if I still was interested in a 7x57 barrel, YES!!! says I, and the gun gets sent back to the factory, the problem was my frame, a then a brand new but 1 year old SB2 which was 1 year to old for a high pressure barrel, they took care of me in grand style. I got the gun back with not only the barrels I had ordered, since besides the 7x57 barrel while it was there IIRC I got a 24" w/screw in choke 12 gauge and another 12 gauge barrel, a Tracker I or II barrel, can't quite remember which it was, and I got the barrels back on a brand new frame!! A frame 1 year newer and capable of accepting any barrel. Their CS was great then and it's great now, you gotta love these guns and their CS people....<><.... ;D

I'd venture to guess that Ruger may have had a hand in making them prior to '99 as that's the magic year when they start fitting  high pressure barrels on them. That makes as much sense as anything else.  :-\
