Author Topic: OT: EVOC ONE (Joe) is home from serious surgery!!! (Read 871 times)

Moderators, I know this may not belong here but I would appreciate leaving it here for all to see. One of our brothers on the site has returned home from the hospital from life threatening surgury and although in pain is doing well at this time...

Hi Guys, it gives me pleasure to finally be able to let out the GOOD news, EVOC ONE, aka "Joe", a fine member here has returned home after some very serious life threatening surgury at John Hopkins Medical Center. These are the facts as I understand them, Joe's problems started last year around Thanksgiving, he had surgury then for some intestinal blockage but although somewhat successful the problem recurred and returned even more serious with the addittion of a large fibrous tumor developing. It became somewhat debilitating and it was determined a serious and possibly a complete bowel resection was neccessary if he was to survive, the problem was compounded by the seriousness of the operation and it's length, which was estimated to take over 7 hours. The plans were made and it included getting a team of surgeons from around the country if it were to be successful. Joe went into the hospital on Monday, March 5th for the operation. The operation went well but not exactly as planned, Joe is home now and although in pain is resting fairly comfortably under the care and ever watchful eye of his loving wife Mary. He is able to get out of bed and relax in a recliner for a little during the day but will be in recuperation for several months. Although he cannot sit at the computer for to long yet he has managed to send me a quick hello and to allow me to send out this info. Joe knew he was going into the hospital for the fight of his life and that there was a chance he might not return, to this end he and I discussed his problem a bit and myself and others I know prayed for him, the surgeons, and for his recovery (now we should pray for his wife Mary!!!). He wanted someone, in this case me, to be able to let you guys know if things did not work out but did not want others to worry, he's quite a guy...He's also home now!!! I hope when he gets to feeling a little better and can post again we all give him a big HELLO JOE!!! IT'S GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK!!!....<><....

Take your time and don't try to rush the recovery so fast that it makes things worse , just hang in there , it will get better buddy .

Check in when you can . we'll keep you in our prayers .

To you & your loving wife & family Glad you are making a come back wish you a speedy recovery but take it slow & easy. Recovery from major abdominal surgery takes time

Get well soo. I now first hand how it is not to be able to sat at the compture for long for I am still on the mend my self and still having some problems. Just do what the Doc.tells you and God bless.

Hello Everyone.

Thank all of you very much for the kind words and prayers.

As MSP said, my computor time is very limited these days.

The recovery is slow, but progressing well. Each day I can feel myself getting stronger, its just going to take a while. I return to Hopkins on Tuesday and expect a more definitive diagnosis of the results of the surgery. I am about 90% dependent upon my wife at the moment. She was given a brief education in nursing while I was at Hopkins. We are also visited two times during the week by home nurses who monitor both of our progress.

I want to thank MSP and his wife for their support and kindness through this ordeal. I burdened MSP with an unusal request and he and his wife stepped up to the plate. They truly are good people.

I'll stop by when I can.

Thanks myarmor, but it's really his loving wife Mary and the notes and posts from you guys that are helping Joe (EVOC ONE) through the pain and recuperation. I did get a little PM from him just the other day, he is getting out of bed a bit more but still is in quite a bit of discomfort, He has to have some drains and tubes removed from his stomach and intestines and he thinks that may help a bit. I am hoping to see him well enough to post a hello to all here within a week or so and hope to see him up and around again. Heck part of his recuperation might just be getting to the Prarie Dog Hunt this year, that is if you guys promise not to punch him in the stomach just to see if he keels over in pain

Hello Everyone.

Everything is going well. All the "accessories" that I left the hospital with were removed yesterday. I'm on the mend. The goal is now to regain my strength and continue recuperation. I will be able to get up and move around more, so you will be seeing me logged on here at GB's more often.

I can take a walk outdoors, but am limited to within 50-100 feet, round trip. I may be able to drive in another week, but that depends upon how much strength I've regained.

Its great to be back, even if its limited.

MSP Ret mentioned I might be able to make the Prarie dog shoot. That would have been great. Knowing that this operation would occur, I didn't plan for it, but its definitly on my to-do list for next year.

Again, a special thank you for everyone who offered their well wishes and prayers. I know the prayers worked. This was the fourth surgery in 15 months and the odds of full recovery were looking bleak. At this point, everything points to success and it looks like this will be the last surgery.

The folks here at this site truly are a special group.
