   I've been looking at the pic of the forend nut tool and I have a question about the  1/4" x 3/16 "ears" at the business end.  Are these to engage a drill rod inserted through the action tube holes? 

No.  It is to engage a forend nut that held the forend on the early model 760s.  Your 760 may not be held on by this type of nut but rather by a screw.  I posted the diagram to help those with the fore end nut mounted forends.  Regardless, it is still a good tool to have in your tool box.

  I guess I have the newer 760 and 7600 that have the four holes in the action tube.  I really appreciated the drawing for the action tube wrench you posted and I believe I can modify this concept to fabricate a similar tool that will work with the newer 760's using an idea posted earlier in this thread.  Instead of the "ears" used to engage the nut I would extend the length of the wrench so that holes could be drilled to match the holes in the action tube and a short piece of drill rod inserted through both.

I'm not sure what the problem is with posting useful information or why you would have to take down such a needed post.  I'm just glad I copied the manual before you deleted it.  Is there some reason that 90% of the forum has to be dedicated to what amounts to useless blather and then be challenged when solid information is posted?.... I don't get it   Can someone "splain" it to me?

Your idea of making a longer wrench and drilling holes to match the holes in the action tube may have some merit.  If you do it, give me some feed back.

As for posting the Instruction Folder --

Apparently, one of the Moderators had a problem with the way I answered a poster to my Instruction Folder thread.  Funny, the poster had no problem with it at all and he and I have swapped PMs about the Folder and our close location to each other (he lives in the county next to mine).  The Moderator basically said my thread with the Instruction Folder would "hardly" (his word) interest anyone.  Then he said he wished it wouldn't be locked and made into a sticky and that he'd vote not to do it.  So, I guess I acted like a little kid and took my ball home (deleted the thread).  I'm not telling stories out of class here.  The moderators post to me is above in this thread.  Anyway, glad the info I posted was of use to you.

I am the person who objected to your response to the other poster.  It was uncalled for and rude.  You apologised and it is over as far as I am concerned.  I also shared my opinion that a forum like this becomes hard to use with lots of "stickies" preceding the posts.  With the number of different guns discussed on this forum, if each generated a sticky then we would have to page thru several pages to get to the new posts.  Since this is the first time in several years that I recall this particular gun discussed here I said that it wouldn't be of interest to most of those here.  The rest is yours, Ed.  I also said that I wished you hadn't decided to remove your post, that it would be available using the search function.  I do appreciate your method for managing the faqs/stickes and am using that on the forums I moderate.  It has been used on a couple of the other GBO forums prior to this, but I wasn't aware of it.

I don't moderate this forum.  Gunnut 69 does, and he does a great job of it.  It is up to him to decide how to manage the business here.  I was expressing my opinion as a GBO member and a reader of this forum. Not as a moderator.

To the poster that thinks 90% of what is posted here is "useless blather" why would you waste your time reading it?  Many of us appreciate the wisdom and experience of the mainstay posters here, gunsmiths who have worked on lots and lots of different guns and are willing to share with the rest of us.  Nearly every day I am able to learn new things from this forum.  And I didn't object in any way to the post, I just expressed my opinion about it becoming a sticky.

Let me apologize for the "blather" statement especially in the gunsmith forum where we get so much good information from very qualified people.  This is the only forum I have visited that came up with the answer to my question and I was not directing the comment to the people who were kind enough to respond but rather to online forums in general.  I have been working on guns for the past 40 years and I understand the dedication and commitment that goes into being good at your craft and then to take the time to share what you have learned is a gift that should be appreciated.   I would like to thank everyone here that has responded to this thread because now I am in the process of building the wrench that you all helped me to figure out.  I will bring this thread back to the top when I have drawings and pics.
