In a recent thread I described how my brand-new Savage 93 in 22 mag wouldn't hit the side of a barn and I was looking for possible fixes. Well this weekend my gunsmith very likely found the problem. There is a noticeable ring cut across the rifling about 1/8 of an inch from the muzzle. He told me he has seen this problem on other M 93's with the standard contour (non varmint) barrels. I had to decide whether to send it back to Savage or just have him cut the barrel and re-crown for about $45.00. I chose the latter as I need the rifle in early June for a Prairie Dog shoot and just don't want the hassle. I seriously doubt I could get Savage to pay for this work, although they should.
I'll post again after I've had a chance to shoot the rifle. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it? Savage ought to know about it.
