Went to the gun show
« on: March 25, 2007, 01:53:12 AM »
Yesterday I went to the show here in Wichita.Walked by a table and there set two handi's.One 223 and the other a butchered up 243.Someone had cut it way down with what must of been a very dull axe.The end of the barrel was cut at a awful angle and had no crown!Asked him what he wanted for them and his reply was make a offer.Don't like doing that, but dang sure should of.Walked maybe 20' and went back and the were gone.Sold them both for $250.00.I banged my head and kicked my self in the butt all day over that one.Receivers and wood were in great condition. The 223 didn't look like it had been shot. You snooze, you loose.Going back this morning and try to deal on a 22 hornet.Wish me luck.Dave

I bought a Rossi .410 double barrel out from under a guy in the Wichita Coloseum years ago. I didn't know he had been haggling over it for 40 minutes. He had walked off to think about it. I walked up, asked if I could look it over, and made the dealer an offer. I had been looking for that gun for about 4 years. I think the dealer accepted the offer just to jack the other guy. I made the purchase and on my way to the truck, all he11 broke loose. The guy was irrate. I think about that everytime I take it on a squirrel hunt. I have been the other guy more times than I can count, but sometimes you get to be the one that leaves with the 'deal'.                            Mostly :'( Sometimes  ;D

As with others here I have been there also, Both those stories hurt and brought back memories, just not any good ones, well perhaps one, the like new 28 gauge barrel I just recently bought at Kittery Trading Post. Thanks for sharing and I hope it eases your pain....<><.... :)

Bummer! I have found that at gunshows, guys will stand right behind you and listen to all of the questions and answers. Then when you walk off to think about it or do something nice for someone else, they swoop in and make a deal. You end up doing all of the wine and dine, he goes home with her.  :-\

Reminds me of a gun show last year.I had bought a Browning Superposed at a pawn shop for $500 that had the stock altered some.Well all the dealer's wanted it but would'nt offer much for it,and then a guy came up to me,looked the gun over and pulled out $650 and offered it to me for the gun.
Well he bought it right there, and there was 3 dealer's headed my way, wanting it.1 of them even offered the man $700 for it. If the stock had been original it would have brought  $1200.     Digger

The gun show deals aren't as bad as some that go down on ebay, but I've seen some things that didn't make sense. They are selling things on there for higher prices than you can buy mainstream.  ???
My guess is that they are getting caught up in the moment.
