NEF Stock weight
« on: April 01, 2007, 03:01:42 PM »
I ordered a new stock for my 45-70 and while I was at it, I ordered a factory stock weight. All arrived in great shape. No instructions with the stock weight "kit" which consists of a steel cylinder, a circular rubber pad and a wood screw. I assume that the rubber pad sits on top of the stock bolt, then the steel cylinder is inserted and then the wood screw would screw down between the cylinder and the stock bolt hole, this would hold the cylinder down and take up any side to side slack. Am I close? Thanks.

Dave I cannot help you but I will follow this thread with interest. I have a factory stock weight but no rubber pad you mention and can supply my own wood screw. When I installed the weight it rattled around a bit and I do not like the "loose" feeling nor the sound. What are the dimensions and description of the rubber piece you speak of?....<><....  :)

Andy, the rubber pad is 3/4" in diameter and about 1/16" deep, just enough to prevent metal to metal contact. I would imagine a piece of rubber from an old inner tube would work. I haven't installed the stock weight yet, I've got the stock at the gunsmith's getting a real recoil pad installed.
