Cost of used Handi Rifle?

I think I have finally decided to throw my hat in the Handi ring after reading all the posts and comparisons between T/C and CVA Optima Elites.  I am in no hurry and will bide my time until the right deal comes along.  My question is what can I expect to pay for a good quality used rifle with nothing aftermarket on it?  If it depends on caliber, I already have rifles (non-Handi) in .243, 7.62x39, .30-06 and ,.30-30.  I am open to suggestions on a new caliber. It will most likely only be for target shooting as I live in IL and can't hunt deer with it and for coyotes I have my .243.  I reload so that could be a factor in my decision.  I was thinking of possibly a larger caliber than anything I have, just because!  Do they have barrels in .444 Marlin?  Maybe a .45-70 would be the ticket.

If you want a big bore get the 45/70 , it is one if not the best shooting handi's that they make and since you load that makes it even better , i just love mine .

As far as price that will depend on what part of the country your in , any were from $150 to $175 for the plain jane handis is not a bad price . New can be had for $220 to $260 .

All the ones I have seen have been to close to new price.
A plain wood stock NEF can be ordered from walmart for $202.

I am not aware of any Wal-Marts in Illinois that have or will order guns.  Granted I have only been in and asked at about 20, but none of the people in sporting goods was aware of any stores that did.

I have been in a couple of pawn shops and gun shops and have seen a couple of Handis, one was in poor shape.  But both were under $200.

The Wal-Marts in my area of IL no longer sell firearms at all nor will they order them.  I went to the NEF/HR website and did some checking at the different calibers.  I am leaning towards the .45/70, I think.  Are you limited as to what loads you can run through the .45/70 Handi?

What Stimpy said!! The .45-70 is a "need to have" Handi, but so is the .223, so take your pick which one you get first!! ;D The .444 is available, as is the .45 Colt Carbine, those are the last two that I ordered, you have a nice selection of rounds to choose from that you don't already have, so all ya have to do is decide which one you can't live without now, get the others later. ;)

The .45-70 Handi or BC will handle Ruger level loads, but I doubt you will, specially without a good recoil pad!! Start with trapdoor loads and work up if you feel a need to, even mid levergun loads are stout.

Your shoulder is the most limiting factor.Actually if you load them down some they are an absolute delight to shoot.The 45/70 is about the most legal fun you can have fully clothed.Notice my tag line concerning 45/70.

I would like to jump in and agree with Stimpy, Quick and Stan. Get a Handi in 45-70 and grab on for a fun time. They are easy to load for and good from everything from Squirrels to Buffalo....<><....  :D

MEDS don't work very well , now the smell of burnt gun powder does help to calm the nerves some .  ;D  ;D  ;)  :o

 MHO everybody needs a 45-70 and 30-30. Plus and few other calibers,
 Maybe 204R. 357 Mag reamed to Maxie, my 2 cents. Marv.
