Rifle nick-names.
« on: January 21, 2007, 01:37:06 PM »
Does anyone else name their firearms?  I think it's a military tradition to give your rifle a girls name, but I have never served.  I have been naming my collection as it was aquired. I also have no sisters or daughters so the wife thinks I'm crazy!!!!!!  How bout it, what are some of the names for yours???

Gosh, I haven't even given this a thought for years.  I never did name a rifle, but I had two old H & R single shots that I did name.  One was a 10 gauge mag with about a 36" full choke barrel named "Big Ben". or just Ben for short.  The other is a 12 gauge 3" mag which I sent to Marble Arms for a vent rib and poly choke - total barrel length is 19", if I recall. It is legal - neither I nor Marble Arms would have it any other way.  Named it "Hubert".  Hubert is very compact and seems to weigh about 5#.  With a 3" magnum load, it is easily the most punishing gun I have ever shot, and I have shot .460 Weatherbys.
Used to keep "Ben" in the duck blind for geese.  Sold it over 25 years ago.  I still have Hubert.  I don't know why, after all the guns that I have owned, I named these two.
CIVES ARMA FERANT - Let the citizens bear arms.
POLITICIANS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO TWO TERMS - ONE IN OFFICE AND ONE IN PRISON.... Illinois already does this.

Animals fear Betsy, she is my sweetheart, she is a '94 remington 700 in 338win.mag.  and when she speaks animals die for sure.   When i touch her off on my mountain top whole town hears her speak.  The booms that echo across the mountain tops surely gets everyones attention.

My old Service .45 ACP was "The Battlin' B (female dog)"
Keepin it clean here for Graybeard by not typing it out.
saw the name painted on the turret of a tank and borrowed it.

Uncle Sam's "TOY" rifle got called all kinds of names !
Wouldn't call them nicknames though ! Most of the time it was combinations of names
ending with "Worthless P.O.S."
