ThunderMug --- Powder Tester
« on: December 01, 2006, 04:11:04 PM »
Just thought I would share my most recent purchase., I got it on Ebay..,and I really like it., it is a silicoln bronze casting according to  the auctioner. I keep it with my 1" BORE cannons and as with everything I have I am very grateful to have gotten it.

Very nice, I have wanted one of these for a long time.

Is it brass/bronze?

The St Augustine (Florida) Museum of Weapons had 2 original ones.  One the owner, Donna bought from a little old lady who was using it for a sauer kraut press.  I think she said the lady had brought it from Italy.   That was a great place to visit, I hate that it closed.  I might have a good close up in 35mm of one of them if I can find it I'll scan it.

Congratulations; we were almost in competition. I'm just itching to buy the annual customary Christmas gift that I like to give myself and I was very tempted to bid on it but I decided to hold out and try and get a cannon. The mug looks like it's well made and you got it at a heck of a price.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

It is bronze almost an exact color match to my coehorn mortar.,Its heavy also 11lbs not bad for a mug.
I felt lucky to get it there were plenty of bidders

Yes it was one of two Bronze  Christmas gifts I bought  for myself this year..., the other is just as cool.  ;D
A Bust of Nelson..., He too was a BIG FAN OF BLACK-POWDER . He held a major "re-enactment" off Cape Trafalgar in 1805.  ;D

My wife says I cant buy any more for a while.

I dont know about sauer kraut but itll damn sure press bacon.
