I recently converted my Savage 110 to 338-06 with an A&B barrel also.  Have about 7 different loads ready for it but haven't made it to the range yet.  maybe this weekend.

Bullets I'm trying out are Nosler 180gr Accubond, Nosler partition 210gr, Hornady 225gr Innerlokt.

Great choice indeed. I have been shooting one for 12 years, Mine is a Rem 700 rebore with a lightweight synthetic stock, Talley LW rings/bases that goes 7# ready to hunt. I have used the 210 gr Partition and, most recently, the 185 gr Barnes TSX. Here's my last bull taken with the TSX at a lasered 280 yards. It dropped at the shot.

Nice bull.  Do you ever recover the TSX's?

As a matter of fact, yes. It was found just under the hide on the off shoulder after entering on a quartering away shot just behind the near shoulder, center punching the off one after "smacking" big bone. A rather rough ride for the slug. It weighs 122 grs.

What load do you use with that bullet?  What velocity do you get.  I think my Chrono might be off.  I loaded a bunch of loads for my savage and at mid level loads, according to Hodgdons manual, with BL-C2 and was getting 3100fps easy with Nosler 180gr Accubond.

Mac,
I had some headspace issues that I think I have corrected.  It's a Savage and I re-adjusted the headspace, but haven't had a chance to load and get back to the range.  My primers were getting flat with mid level loads, and I think I remember reading somewhere that too much headspace might cause this too.  I guess the cartridge/primer moving back and forth can make it flat, so hopefully that is the issue.

There were also a few missfires that I hope can be attributed to the headspace as well, allowing for weak primer strikes.

There were starting signs of it in the other loads (nosler 210gr Partition, Hornady 225gr Interlock) but nothing like the  Accubond.  ALL my loads chrono'd at least 100-150 (some cases more) faster than the book says that should.

I am going to load some more up, but with base level loads and see what happens.  Accuracy wasn't what I'd hoped for, BUT I was also using a 4X scope and it's hard to make itty bitty groups, for me, at 100yds with a 4X.

I'm hoping all the issues, flat primer, accuracy, headspace will be worked out the next trip out.

Gotta tell ya though, shot some 180's at a steel target at 300 and 400yds, and that baby got there FAST ;D, like one other posted over at Savage shooters.com, with 3200fps (some shots) for a 180bullet, that puts it square in the 300 RUM territory.  Almost spooky. :o

Yup...I know...With this combination folks don't believe it till they see it do it...I'm 3 grains under max with my loads and clocking 3050fps with it...Wayne York did a nice job with my chamber and it's cut rifling...and I haven't had any head space issues...I've taken it up to max and had just a hint of flattening of the primers...which for this rifle would be slightly less than the 340 Nosler #5 book velocities with 4350..I know it can't be right..and so I don't load them that hot...I plan on getting that Pressure Trace equipment and do some serious testing later this spring...I'll let you know what I find out..

I am using VV-N550 powder and safely achieving a bit under 3000 fps in my 22" barrel. My 210 gr Partition load usnig the same powder goes 2800 fps.
