Since it has the "Pope" connection it is worth some dough as you are well aware. I saw some stevens that were pope models in the book but not 44's. I would take it to a gun appraiser in your area if you have one and if not do a internet search for one and if no one is in your area maybe one can give you some idea with pictures of the gun. I would also check to see who the Savage Historian is and maybe he can help you as Savage took over Stevens or maybe they have a Separate Stevens historian?? Maybe there is also a Stevens collectors club you could contact on the web? Just some ideas you could check into. Jim

For J. Stevens Arms rifles, serial no. records are not generally available. Historical information for a particular model, along with the approximate date of manufacture can be furnished for a charge of $15.00 per gun.
If a model number is not known, I suggest that all pertinent information be given. If possible include a photo. Information should include serial number, caliber or gauge, barrel length and style (round, octogon, etc.), stock and fore-end style, markings, patent dates, inspectors stamps, etc., from the butt plate, barrel, frame or receiver.
If you decide to take advantage of this service, please send your information along with your payment in the appropriate amount to John T. Callahan. Responses will take 2 to 4 weeks from the time I receive your inquiry and complete your search.
Thank you for your interest.
