Then There Where Two
« on: March 31, 2007, 04:20:17 PM »
Hello

Here I am worried about sneaking another Handi into the house, look what I found when I was getting ready to go to the range and opened up the gun case.

Well not really, I got my son to sneak it in. I went back to Dicks looked the Handi over for a third time, pointed out the dings in the stock and ask if they had another one. It was the only Handi with a scope they had, I then asked if they would discount it since the stock was messed up they said they normally do not discount but they would knock 5% off if I bought it. So I picked it up for 285 plus the Governor and the phone call. I then ask him if I would want another one in a different caliber how long to get it for me 5-8 weeks he said (The shop that I get most of my firearms had the Handi in for me in 10 days.). It took me 10 to 15 minuets to say I will take it for the next hour I filled out the paper work and waited for the salesman to do his part, I even had to pay the $2 for the phone call before I even started the paper work. Also on the form Dicks mandated every thing be spelled out no abbreviations this was a first for me. So some sound advise if you plan to purchase a firearm at Dicks pack a lunch. My next stop was the range only to find out the range was closed, I really wanted to make some noise, will try tomorrow. I bought 2 boxes of ammo Remington 55 Gn when I bought the Handi will also try Wally World on the way to the range tomorrow. This Handi came with a gun case and a 6-24X50 AO scope. I noticed that the barrel is not drilled and taped for iron sights, is this typical of NEF not drill and tap for sights? I hope the next Handi will be the BC. Ok where do I go from the BC???? These things are not addicting these things are not addicting these thin………………………………………………………………………………..

………gs are not addicting.

Have a great day

Joe,

Congrats on the new Handi!! Your buying experience is reminescent of what Walmart firearms purchases are like from most reports, about an hour in length, every i dotted and t crossed, no abbreviations, same for Big 5 purchases!

Only NEF/H&R firearms that come from the factory with iron sights will be D&Td for sights, but ALL rifle barrels come D&Td for scope bases. A person can order any barrel from the accessory barrel program with sights, but if it isn't a standard offering, sights will cost an extra $47.

Hello

Tim I been through a Wally World gun purchase, with my son. He had to remove it from the store right away and they would not let him buy any ammo at the time of his purchase. Could you steer me in the direction of a good starting weight for 22-250  bullet  and a powder to start with. I still need to get dies so I could get them all at once.

Have a great day

Joe

It is SOP to spell everything out on the white form. The shop I do my FFL transfers through got warned about that just about a month ago. Even the year 3-31-2007. The funny thing is they are not supposed to coach you on how to fill out the form. Line 12 should be left blank No N/A or anything like that.

What takes time is when the person you are dealing with does not know what they are doing. I also do not understand this "$2 for the call". The BC is $7.50 nation wide and IIRC the call is toll free. One of the shops out here charges $10 for the BC because "It's a pain". So I don't shop there and have turned quite a few folks off to them also.

I really need to get my CCP. In Utah it negates the BC and would save me $7.50 a pop.

Once those other dealers that are not making you write every thing out vs abbreveating gets a visit from BATFE they will either a. change their ways or b. be out of business.

Last year the shop I trade at got a visit, a LONG VISIT and then after 2-3 weeks they took his files with them for further study. I'm not sure he ever got them back. Highly illegal really but if you're a dealer it's not smart to argue with them. He got some new marching orders from them in how to do the paperwork and a few other things. He stayed in business but for sure now more clearly understands what the DEMAND of him.

It would appear that a lot depends on WHO does the audit and what mood they are in. Two 4473 forms ago I was told no abbreviations and every blank MUST have an answer or N/A. Those were the rules he was told to abide by on his last inspection. The last 4473 I filled out at the same gun shop, I was told I COULD NOT use N/A because the agent threatened to close him down after going through his files on the most recent audit and found all those N/A's. I wish I could remember that old saying about "small people in positions of power". >:(

If actual compliance in completing the 4473 is like any other government regulating agency's, it's all in the interpretation of the rules, I spent over 35yrs working for the government, some agencies are lax, others very strict, just depends on who and how they interpret the rules. What one official calls gray, another says is black, it ain't all just black and white. :-\

Joe, my 22-250 FLuted Ultra likes 50gr Vmax and H4895, use Hornady's data, you'll find a good load. ;)

Hello

I was about to use only two abbreviations like always, Pa for Pennsylvania and Ave for Avenue. I never was told about this before. The one section I had to spell the month out but not at another . I know in the area in which I live gun store robberies is up as well as straw purchases for the criminal element.

Tim thanks for the help I do not have a Hornady manual yet but will get one. I am jonesin' to shoot this rifle, weatherman calling for rain on Sunday but I will only get wet hanging targets.

Thanks

have a great day

Joe

If you want to buy a Hornady manual, make sure you get the 7th Edition if you can find it, it was just released recently. Of course, if you can get a 6th on sale, go for it! ;)

Yep. Here in Montana also. Great for us shooters who make routine firearm purchases.
