Scope a hornet?
« on: May 22, 2007, 03:22:20 PM »
I am considering a hornet and wonder if I can scope it and get a good cheek weld or will I need to change the butt stock to get less drop. Unfortunately, I haven't got a shop around here that has a handi with stock sights. So, I can't try it on for size.

Thanks,

Bob A

The Hornet, as all rifle barrels do, comes drilled and and tapped for a scope rail, if that tells ya anything, just depends on how it fits ya, lots of shooters prefer the low comb stock for scoped Handis. If you need a little height, you can always add a neoprene shell holder with a little foam padding under it to raise the comb, or a lace on cheek pad.

I have had both stocks on mine while scoped original low comb for iron sights and a laminate with comb I ordered from H&R.  I actually preferred the low comb original slightly for cheek weld over the laminate it wears now.

I used a weaver rail with rings that kept the scope low.  I had to just slightly grind the top of the hammer, re blue and add a spur.  I think I used medium Millet rings and could go look if you need and/or post pictures.  The scope is a 40 mm, 4x12 Bushnell Banner, wish I went with a 14 or 16 power.

I don't think cheek weld will be a concern though.  In my case the length of pull bothered me more, easily corrected with a butt plate.
