Model 97 - 7 1/2" - 357/38Spl
« on: June 23, 2007, 08:39:57 AM »
I am one week into my ordering wait for a Model 97 in 45C/45ACP w/ 7 1/2" brl. ( only 7-9 wks more to wait?). I am already thinking about another 97 in 357 w/ 7 1/2" brl. I would be using mainly for target useage with 38Spl WC & SWC loads, Should I spring for the extra 38Spl. cylinder for better accuracy with these loads. I am not too concerned about cleaning the residue ahead of the cases in the 357 cylinders from mild 38 loads just accuracy. Would I gain smaller target groups in the FA with the extra 38 cylinder or would I never notice the difference?

I have never noticed the difference.  Though some of my most light loads in the 97/357 were in 357 brass with a 125 grain rnfp bullet and a bit of Titegroup powder.

My limited experience has not been with a FA (yet), however, I have noticed that my S&W .38s -- that are chambered in .38 -- are more accurate than shooting .38s out of a .357. Now these are just lowly S&Ws and not an awe inspiring Freedom Arms gun, but I think that may be the norm.
