What 1911?  There are so many variants available today, and so many made in the past, that it is tough to answer your last question without knowing the gun.  I'd not use +P in an old worn milsurp pistol without haveing it checked out by a 1911 'smith.  I'd not use it in an accurized race gun either.

My carry rounds in a .45 are Hydra-shoks. And no I do not use +P rounds in my 1911.
Might flatten out too quick for hogs though. Lead semi-wadcutter would probably
penetrate pretty good though.

If you might be looking for a non-expanding semi-wadcutter slug, try Mag Techs 230 gn fmj swc.  Full swc configuration, sharp shoulder edge and pretty accurate in both my 45s.  Mikey.
