DW 741 compared to a S&W 657
« on: March 28, 2007, 04:38:40 PM »
I've been looking for a 741, in the meantime my shooting buddy bought a new S&W 657 7.5".  It is a sweet gun, great action and trigger feel, shoots like a dream.  It's back at the factory now to have the barrel inspected, and depending on the way this is handled I'd considered buying the same model since they're available - and I might never find "the" 741 I want.  Plus the SW has a lifetime warranty for the original owner, which we would all like to think is a moot point if we take care of our guns but has value nonetheless.  I was wondering if anyone has experience shooting both guns and you would compare them in terms of accuracy, strength, and trigger/overall feel.  Thanks in advance.

By your user name you like Dan Wessons I always see them on the auction sites there is at least one 741 on Gunbroker right now. I am sure that it is one of the calibers you can still get barrels for a quick email to the factory would answer it for sure. My choice would be the DW but I have never owned a S&W.

My choice would also be the Dan Wesson. And, you will be able to find the occasional one on sites like Gunbroker.com.
The strength on the DW is much greater. It's obvious when you look at the two guns closely. Just look at the massive frame thickness of the DW. I own both S&W's and DW's of various calibers...and have shot the DW heavily in long distance silhouette competition. My large frame DW's have taken thousands of high power rounds shot thru them, and have not loosened up or lost accuracy in my competition matches. It is truly amazing!
THE DAN WESSON WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU.

The Dan Wesson will be stronger, both will be accurate.  If you decide on the S&W let me know.  A friend is selling his 8 3/8" Pinned and Recessed model 57 (41 mag).
