H110 in the 45 Colt.
« on: April 03, 2007, 05:30:16 PM »
I'm currently using 22 gr. of H110 under a 250 gr. LSWC in my FA '83 Long Colt.  I'd like a reference to a respected source for additional info on that load.  Specifically, I'm wondering if 22 gr. is the max for that gun/cartridge combination or if its time to put in the 454 Casull cylinder and kick it up a notch.

You can go a lot more than 22 grs. in that gun. Linebaugh says up to 27 grs. with a 260 gr. Hard Cast for around 1450 fps (out of a Ruger) so your FA should at least take that. I've loaded a 260 Hard Cast with that load in my Bisley and had no problems. The velocity wasn't as fast as his (1375) but accuracy was good. He did say some cans of H-110 were a little slow and I have found that to be true. I would start at 24 grs. and work up just to be on the safe side. ;)

I can't comment on H110 , but I like using Lil Gun in my 45 colt BH. I'm using 23.5 gr of Lil Gun pushing a 250 gr. Hornady XTP. Man, that colt roars when I drop the hammer! :o
