7-30 Waters twist rate
« on: April 11, 2007, 11:17:55 AM »
Any one know the twist rate for a factory 7-30 Waters Contender barrel?  If it makes any difference it is a stainless barrel.

The reason for asking is to find out what bullets are likely to work well out of this barrel.  Any suggestions?

Typically, the 7-30 Waters barrels a 1:9 twist.  When I was shooting a Waters Contender barrel I preferred Hornady 120 V-max and Nosler 120 Ballistic Tips for deer and coyotes.

Try Accurate Arms 4064 under these bullets.  Start at 34 grains and work up to 38 grains.  Data from Accurate Powder manual #2.

I would assume that mine is a 1: 9 twist. All I know is 120 gr. Nosler BT shoot the best in my 14" Hunter. And from what has been asked about the 7x30 Waters on this site about everyone else agrees, that the 120 gr. BT is the best bullet for accuracy & hunting. And I have to agree.  :) :) :)    My load is 36.5 grs. W-748 under 120 gr BT seated to 2.850 OAL in fireformed 30-30 Fed. cases & Fed 210 primers. This will shoot clover leaf groups all the time. One thing that I did notice when developing this load is that the groups got tighter as the bullet was seated out more. This has been the case with most of my T/C barrels.
