Barrel change locking up
« on: April 26, 2007, 02:35:54 AM »
The barrel will not open without a lot of effort........like a hammer! The only difference I can find is the spring loaded latch
assembly between barrels. Can I push the pin out and exchange latches with a barrel I have that does work without any
problems? If this works, then I will probably file or grind the "bad" latch to the same dimensions.

Yes. Easy to change. Don't try to home-grind it. Order a few split bolt assemblies from T/C. The cost will be modest...probably free.

I just had the same thing happen.  I called T/C and it was that latch.  If you can't split it in the middle then that is the problem.  Just call T/C and they will send you one for free.  All you have to do is tap the pin out and replace the latch.  The one piece latch was for contenders with serial numbers below 195,000.  All of the newer ones have the split latch-at least that's what they told me.

Good luck,

Bob

The "latch" you refer to is the bolt. You need replacement "split" or "two piece" bolts. Call T/C as suggested.
