You know Tim: "how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
it's one of those rodents that would chuck wood if they could....<><.... ;D

There are rockchucks well east of the Cascades, and I can shoot California ground squirrels about 75 miles east of me, but nothing around here. :-\

A question please, how do you tell the difference between a "stray cat" and a neighbors cat out for a stroll? And by the way what is a "stray cat"? Is it like a "stray dog" only smaller? I like dogs but we also had a cat for 17 years and am wondering how you decide which one to shoot, or do you shoot them all? We probably don't want any anti-hunting or anti-shooting activists, or animal rights groups getting a hold of this thread and taking it and using it out of context. As has been said by that old sage Elmer Fudd, "be wery, wery careful", especially in what you say and what you put in print, I know you did not mean it the way it came out but someone else may not and may try to use it against all of us....<><.... :o

Woodchuck have not quite appeared here yet but real soon.

Stray cats are easy to identify around here. They are very rough looking, much larger. I am up to 28 so far and have never had a problem knowing the diff between a house cat and one gone wild. My lab has been trained to chase ( but not hurt) cats in the yard so I do not see as many as I used to.

Nothing against archers but the last time we played that game with a long bow with homemade wooden arrows right down to the obsidian tips........it took 5 arrows and we had 3 dogs tore up.......... I prefer one well placed shot out of a 223 myself...... those kitties get a little bit hostile when they are wounded and those claws are mighty sharp......... Although I have seen a few hit with compounds that expire quickly........... ;D

I do like my longbow or even a recurve better than my compounds now but I do stay with steel arrowheads. I also think I would have a backup with me if I did hunt those kittys with a bow. When my buddy and I went hog hunting in Texas we each used our longbows with wooden arrows and steel arrowheads and the did carry a .44 Mag as a backup just in case, we may be a bit crazy but not stupid....<><....  ;D

Well the bow he used worked fine but we wernt sure how good the first shot was placed.  It come out of the tree so fast, we had our dogs tied off but when we tried to blood trail we couldnt find any so we let the dogs loose..... It treed again about 300 yards later and the 2nd arrow was not very well placed.....the big tom came out of the tree and a few of the dogs got loose and got him on the ground so after climbing into a real mess and pulling tore up hounds off the cat he tried to slip out and the hunter started flinging sticks..... His first shot would of done the job if we had just given him time to bleed out but where we couldnt locate a blood trail we didnt want to lose him and so a mess insued...... we had plenty of back up as far as that goes but the hunter wouldnt hear of it... He was a complete primitive or traditional hunter i guess you would call it...........

Back to the cat thing.

ANY cat in my yard is a stray target far as I'm concerned.
'nuff said, keep 'em outta here is all I care', coni's in the shop now too.

Thing I dislike worse than stray cats in my yard, are the one's messing in the dirt/sand
floor inside my shop.
