Is anybody else having problems with PM's
« on: April 15, 2007, 02:11:57 PM »
My PM's are not posting that I have new messages. The messages are there, shows I have 4 messages, really have 6. Not shure of what's wrong. Anyone else having problems? It's not posting the new ones on my user info.

There have been a few "miss cues" with the site lately, some posts just disappear after being typed and a smiley added to the post, I on occasion have had trouble with PM's going through but not the problem you speak of, it might be the phase of the moon or rain or whatever....<><....:)

Guys I'm gonna tell you again, you gotta make up your mind if you want smilies or spell check. They WILL NOT work together. You gotta chose.

I've had a few instances where the page to tell me a PM and a post both were made failed to appear, instead I got a can't be displayed message. But so far every time the PM went and the post was made. No errors in that regard.

I do know that there is some time limit on making a post or sending a PM once you start. I don't know what that time is but there is one. I started one and then went to eat supper and came back and it refused to post it first try but let me tell it to do so again and it posted. Message was it had timed out on me. I didn't lose anything tho as I had stayed logged in.

From time to time when making a post (NOT a PM) you'll hit POST and rather than posting it will give you a message that another post has been made while you were typing. If you don't wait and see it but just "assume" the post was made and move on to something else you will lose that post. But if you way to read the message and it tells you another was made and that you might want to reconsider yours you can add more to it or change it or just tell it to POST and it will. These are quirks of this software.

Bill, I'm not having a problem with PMs themselves, sometimes I get the page can't be found error, but the PM is always sent. But my PM count is haywire, it never shows new PMs and I don't get the pop up notification that I did before the change to the new domain. I talked to Matt last night and he's working on it, and I still do get email notifications of new PMs, so being alerted to new PMs still happens, just in a round about way cuz sometimes email alerts aren't real timely due to the net!! :D

For some people this error is due to the fact that with the new domain their system is blocking the pop up and they should allow pop ups from the new domain. I have sent myself about 30 PMs between 2 of my usernames and I got 20 or so of the 30 new PM alerts that I should have. So there is a real issue but I just dont have any clue yet as I cant seem to find any common events that cause it one way or the other. I am working on this and hope to figure it out soon but it is not real high on the priority list as PMs contribute nothing to the overall information sharing on the site.

I think you have to close your browser after you disable spell check to make a difference. When you come back, spell check will still be disabled if your browser is set to accept cookies......I think!! ;D
