Question For Tim
« on: April 19, 2007, 02:13:05 AM »
Tim,
Seeing as I have gotten great info from you in the past, I have one more question. Just traded a 243 barrel for a 308. The 308 is an ultra barrel, it fits my SB2 receiver fine and locks up pretty good. The headspace is good, but it is a little loose when everything is back together. Do I need to put some kind of shim in there, or what would you suggest.

I think you'll find the barrel is a little loose when the forend is off, close the action hard so it locks up good, then hold the barrel in one hand and the stock at the wrist in the other and twist back and forth hard, if you can feel any looseness, it will need shimming, although not much. That's if latch engagement is proper going by the pic in the FAQs, smoke the latch to check that.
