Smith Enterprises Rear sight
« on: April 17, 2007, 05:42:10 AM »
I must be suffering a extreme case of brain gas  If you have a Smith sight could you look at the slider.  On one side I see a set screw on the other is a hole with nothing in it running vertical with the sight in the up position.  Just checking to find out if I lost something important.  Thanks

One side of the slider has a slotted screw with a spring and a ball under it, the other side has nothing on it, I have 3 sliders, they're all the same, except one is notched. You can see the screw head on the left side of the slider in the top pic.

Thanks, that's what mine has.  I just wondered about the other hole, seems like a hard thing to drill a unnecessary hole in.

When I said nothing on it, I meant there's no hole, the side with the screw in it is the only hole in the slider, the other side has no hole, or anything, sounds like they drilled a hole in both sides of yours, not that it would hurt anything, but for a defense contractor, they seem to screw things up a biit, hope they do better for our military!! See how close to the edge the peep hole is in the top pic? They replaced it with one that is centered like in the bottom pic, to my eyes, it looked like a slot instead of an aperture, not very precise work if you ask me. :-\

There was one in the NEF Classifieds, but Buffalo Arms sells em with a notch slider, the peep slider has to be purchased separately from Smith. Track of the Wolf used to list the slider, but I couldn't find it the last time I looked.

Depends on what front sight you have, most of us have put a .404" 17A sight on, but the BC comes with either a .494" or .584" tall front sight.
