I had some of my reloads chronographed for my Blr .358  But, I don't own a chrony and was wondering if anyone has chronographed .308 factory loads for a 20" Blr bbl. I mean common stuff like Winchester pp or Rem.. corelock or Federal vital shock especially 150 grn loads.  Any handloads coronographed would also be useful. Thanks

My handloads with IMR4064 and 150gr Sierra's clock 2775fps @ 15 feet from the muzzle of my old BLR.  Started using a chronograph and this load both in 1974.  Haven't tried some of the newer powders since nothing ever ran off from the old one.  Sorry, I can't help you with factory loads, never bought any.  BOL

Thank you . I was at the range all afternoon trying to get the rifle to shot a consiistant  group. With Winchester and Remington shells. Had fliers all over the place ! Couldn't shoot any kind of group. I noticed the bbl.band was touching  the bbl. and relieved it a little. Any other suggestions That might help ?
I'm getting out my reloading stuff tonight and make up a few to try. I used to use 48.5 of 748 with any 150 bullet and it worked fine in my past .308's Now to find that powder, it's around here some place.

I think that you'll find that slower powders like 4064, RL15 and Varget work a little better with your lever extraction.  One big trick to benching a BLR is to put the forward bag under the action, not the forearm.  Don't forget a bag under the toe of the stock.  Three shot groups will suffice with that light barrel.  Also watch closely to be sure that your crosshairs are aligned vertically the same each shot.  Without a wide flat bottom like bolt guns, the BLR is easy to cant or cock to one side without much notice.  BOL

This morning under controlled conditions I shot five factory loads and 2 handloads. None were to my satisfaction 2 1/2- 3 inch groups. Myother blrs shoot much better than this. I'm sending it down the road or to the dumpster. >:(

Me thinks a gun that is gone in 10 min, maybe shouldn't have gone in first place??

I like them too ! I have 2 in .358 win. and they are absolute tack drivers. Black bears  or big hogs are no match for them.
I'm not sorry to sell it so cheap.(even though I lost 350.00 on the sale) I tried everything to get it to shoot at least a 2 shot group. I showed the man the targets but he wanted it anyway(most people in these parts know me as an honest person)
Now to find another and try again ! ;D

As a side note, Browning will not work on the steel sided blrs. They sold all the parts to www.midwestgunworks.com I found out the hard way they don't work cheap but are good.

I've never had a problem with mine in 24yrs, so I guess it doesn't matter too much if Browning won't work on it. ;D

Well, I got rid of that one over the weekend. I was very honest about it and even showed him the targets but he wanted it anyway. I sold it for half of what I had in it. But, I don't give up easy and I'm going to buy another on line in the morning ! I hope this one turns out better. I went to church this morning so that might help.

I've chrono'ed 165 gr .308 Hornady light mag loads at 2720 fps through my 20" bbl BLR. Hornady 'claims' a velocity of 2880 fps for that load on the cartridge box. I expected a bit more velocity through my BLR, but not to be. It has shot through all 3 deer I used it on so far. Max distance was about 150 yards as I remember.

I did get another off the net ! it is in perfect condition. I finally got it to the range last week with several brands of factory loads and a few handloads. It didn't seem to shoot any better than the other untill I tried some cheap Federal powder shocks. it would shoot 1" 3 shot groups at a 100 yds.  So I set up some milk jugs at 200,250 and 300 yds. Got lucky and hit them all. Then shot another 3 shot group and it came out 1" again. Now to do that with a handload. Oh ! this is a steel reciever model in .308 which is what I wanted to match my .358 I do not know what the vel. is but the box says 2820 which of course wouldn't be right in my 20" bbl
