Lyman is OK in my book
« on: June 06, 2007, 10:26:17 AM »
As you may have seen in another post of mine I acquired a Lyman Tru-Line Jr press recently. I Emailed Lyman to see if they had and info. I just received less than a week later a copy of the original manual.

That's the kind of service I like. Haven't made the press in 50 years but they still o their best to support the products.

Several years ago I abused a Lyman production lead pot.  I sent it to Lyman for repair and explained that I knew the product was not at fault.  As you might guess, they fixed it and would not let me pay them any money.  They have been a good outfit for many generations of Americans.

A year are so ago I sent my Lyman Crusher II to Lyman.I had bought off Ebay and the ram was out of line.It would hit the top off the stop and kind of wobble.Any way,I told Lyman about it and where I had got it and told them just send me a bill before they sent it back and I would pay them.About 2 weeks later I got press back, looked like a new one and in the note that came with it....NO CHARGE.You can't beat that.I now own 3 Lyman's because of this ;D...Rick

Lyman is good in my book too!  I think Lee, Hornady, Redding, Forster, RCBS, etc, are also good.   Your press should not have developed that error and they fixed it, I'm glad.  All our makers seem to give pretty fair support to their products unless the problem is due to blatant misuse and I don't expect them to correct those things for free even tho sometimes they do.  I suspect some folks get turned down for corrections largely because of their own belligerent attitudes.

It always amuses me to read of someone's undying devotion to a given brand because of good support.  I learned a long time ago that no tool or machine is fool proof if the fool is persistent enough and  I don't want to pay for foolish errors with the original purchase price of my stuff, which is what happens with all tool warranties.

I bought a Lyman orange crusher press a couple 3 weeks ago at a garage sale.. After reading about their service here I sent them an email asking if they had any old manuals laying around and they said sure we will send you one no problem.  Now that's service!

Just got my Lyman manual and catalogue of course in the mail yesterday.  That's 4 days after I emailed them and requested one. Now if Canada Post could be that fast.
