If you look further down in this forum you will find a post called "Pictures of My Old Drilling".   My old drilling was made in Oct. of 1935, and that's the oldest drilling/combo i own.

I have a J. P. Sauer (made in Prussia) 12 gauge dbl. with a 30/30 Winchester rifle barrel , Pre WWI with Hammers made for Charles Daly & Son New York. It was given to me by My Uncle and came down from My Grandfather who supposedly bought it Used in 1920 because someone had fired it with a plugged rifle barrel and split the barrel. Some one then hacked it off 6" in back of the Shotgun muzzles and My Uncle took 37 Deer with it and a Trainload of Pheasants.  :)
I was surprised when I shot the rifle as it still shoots around 4" at 100 yds. with the tang sights. Now it hangs over the Fireplace dreaming of days gone by. :(
I wish I could afford to get it restored.

Just thought I would add some pix in of the cape gun.
One of those feel good purchases

It weighs 5#12oz with the shotgun tubes and 6#12oz with the cape.

I've got a Wilhelm Collath and Sons that was made sometime between 1890-ish and 1910. (I think it's closer to 1890 than 1910, but I simply can't pin it down.) 16x16x10.75mm. A very odd chambering... not the caliber (.423"), but the case. I use .44-40 cases and hand cast 240-grain bullets as high as 1800, but I settled on 310s at  1550 f/s. I've loaded some black powder shotshells, and have taken one mallard on the last day of the eason last year. Took a sow hog in a California hunt last fall.

Gitano,
do you have any pics of your gun that you could post.  I would love to see it.

Thanks,

Again my apologies for not responding sooner, but without an email notice, I tend to forget. I'll try to do better in the future.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my Collath. Since the chambering was something of a mystery, I decided I needed to completely disassemble it, and "get to know it". I'm certainly glad I did. I love this piece.

This is a collage of the area around the action:

Here are some of the action partially disassembled. It is a beautiful example of simplicity and workmanship:

Here are the sights:

Here is the cartridge I finally settled on:

And here is a slug of the bore and a scaled drawing of the rifling. Collath was quite the "independent" thinker.

dougk - I'm afraid I don't. I bought it at auction in San Francisco.

Drilling Man - Thanks. I've grown quite attached to it. I've loaded some low-pressure 16 ga handloads for it, but I haven't had the time to pattern them to see which loads are best. I have both black powder and nitro loads. The nitro loads generate chamber pressures in the 8,000 PSI range, so I'm not concerned about the Damascus bbls. Maybe this fall I'll be able to get after some grouse with it.
