How good are these rifles?  Are they accurate, are they reliable?

I just bought one in 30-40 Krag. I am still breaking in the barrel, etc, but so far things look pretty good. Just shooting a jacketed load that I had worked up for another gun.

I have had one in .45-70 for about a year. Extremely accurate. Beautiful rifle. I reload and use rather mild smokeless loads. I don't know if it is up to handling marlin lever action or ruger-type loads, however. Should be fine with trapdoor loads, though. I had it drilled and tapped for a marlin 336 type weaver base. The number of the base escapes me, now. It is a same-ragged- hole shooter at 100 yards with my loads and when I do my part at the bench. No regrets.

Nice replies.  seems I read someone say once they could handle marlin loads, but i guess uberti is the ones to ask.

I'm thinking either 40-65 or 45-70, and it would be mostly BP loads BUT an occasional smokeless load might find it's way down the bore.  I thought I really wanted a Sharps, BUT since I shoot left handed AND a Sharps cost almost twice as much it may never happen.

I have a 30-40 Krag also and it's a good shooter. Fit and finish is good too. I would think these could handle very high pressures like the originals and current Winchesters do, but I guess you could ask Uberti to make sure. I load my 30-40 to it's full potential.

Does the 30-40 compare to the 308 or higher?

At normal pressures it can't equal the .308 Win, but it isn't far behind.

My Uberti High Wall is chambered for .45-70, has a 30" barrel, standard sportsman sights, and still cloverleafs at 200 yards very consistently off the bench. My loads are either 27.5 gr of H4198 behind a 405gr LFN for 100/150 yards and 29 gr of H4198 behind the same bullet for 200+ yds. Cleans up nice and am very proud to own.

No problems with mine. No failure to fire or eject. Good fit and finish. Hard to imagine why the Sharps are so much more expensive. Perhaps it is the checkering, grade of wood, "custom" build, etc. However, for the money, I am very pleased with the Uberti.
