308 Ultra Hunter
« on: April 23, 2007, 01:32:46 PM »
I have had this gun for almost a year and I finally took it out to the range for the first time. I had a box of 150 grain Federal Fusions. I had used my bore slighter and the first shot was one inch low and i/2 inch to the right at 50 yards. I took the target to 100 yards and fired a shot
and adjusted the scope. I then fired three more shots which were all over a paper plate. I readjusted my rest and the scope and fired three more shots. One again it
was about a four inch group. When I moved the adjustment right or left it would go about three times as much as it should. My shots varied up and down by about four inches as well.

When I got home I think I found the problem. My ring to base fit was pretty loose on the back ring and not much better on the front one. This is a pretty new Leupold M8 4X scope so I am sure its ok.

Anyway the rifle performed very well and ejected the cases briskly  into a pile about six feet behind me. Time to try some reloads now and see if tightening the rings helped.
shot placement is everything.

Yea I bet that was the problem.
The quality of a mans life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence.

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work!!

I hate it when that happens , i did kinda the same thing but forgot to tighten down the ring screws so with each shot the scope would rotate clockwise . and no screw driver with me .  :o

Mine were not real loose but the back ring was much looser than the front ring.
shot placement is everything.
