Finally made a decision but need some help !

 After a lot of soul searching I ordered a Synthetic 45-70 with sights. But I need a scope with my eyes. So How hard is it to get a scope base or hammer spur since it doesn't come with one ?
    Also, at what pratical distance should it be sighted in (hoe high) to make a surefire killing shot on a deer. I'm going to use the Win. 300 grn factory load untill I round up some reloading distance.  Thanks

I do believe they still come drilled and tapped for a scope rail. You can order the scope rail from the factory.

All the 45/70 barrels come drilled & tapped , you can order a rail & hammer spur from H&R or get a Weaver 82 base and an Uncle Mikes hammer spur , both ways will be under $20 .

As for range , start at 50 then move out to 100 to get the feel of were it is going to shoot at diffrent yardages .

You might wanna consider wood instead of synthetic stocks, to help with that gentle shove the 45/70 gonna give ya
