I have several 8MM Mausers.They are loads of fun to shoot and very very strong.

I have a Yugo 24/47 that is a hoot to shoot even with the mil sights and my tired old eyes. I'm thinking of a second one to double my fun.

Hi,

     My grandfather ordered one from Epps Sporting goods in the 1960's (an obendorf).  Had it customized at williams gunsight shorter barrel, new stock and sights.  Shot it till his death.  Uncle has it now.  Wonderful gun.  Great on Whitetails, coyote and such.

Have several 8 MM Mausers, Only one made in Germany though.
Favorite caliber and great shooting weapons...

The original "Commission rifles" were in 8x57J (.318 bore) and tube magazines... No Mauser did not make them. He was busy... but he did alot of follow up and made the rest of the German battle rifles... I think it was Mauser that "opened" the Commission rifles to .323 bore...  8 loaded by Norma about equals the '06. US loads are puny for liability reasons.  For heavier bullets, better. For varmints... lousy, but then '06 no better. Guns were made under contract all over the world. No, they are not the strongest. Germany proofed at circa 80K CUP which is plenty safe but other actions are much stronger. (Weatherby for instance per Hornady. Jap 6.5 ???) Fun. With Mil surplus ammo... "shoots good, goes bang..." You get decent condition and can use the iron sights and you have a deer rifle for life. Go to modifying and you have whatever your budget will stand. There are some target tricks but cost as much as a 40X. So what is YOUR pleasure...??? luck. (I preferred 7x57 myself back when they were available. Slightly better.)

I bought a 8mm 24/47 at a gun show. It is a ball to shoot. Even with my 63 year old eyes it is extremely accurate at 100 yards.

I have:
 Yugo M48a-shoots unreal and is fun
Turkish 8mm-big, same size as older German Gewehr rifles, fun
K98k (German karibiner 1944)-light, easy handling, shoots lights out
Yugo M48 with sporter stock and scope- awesome and accurate
1950's Swedish commercial sporting rifle in 8mm-my deer rifle that I LOVE!

As you can see, I love the 8mm. Power, precision, and alot of history in most of the guns out there.
K98k's are in stock at alot of places right now. Yugo m48's and 24/47's are readily available.

My father who is a WW2 vet has explained to me the virtues and short comings of the 8mm Mauser is so right about this. He was on the recieving end of the 8mm in the bolt rifle and machine gun many times. The 98k is a durable accurate rifle, but was out gunned by the American M1.
