Maybe this is a little bit of closing the door after the horse has left the barn. What is everyone's opinion on the Marlin 39A .22? I just ordered one and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I really like the 24" barrel, it's take down properties and overall look to it.

Had mine since 1972 , it was called a GOLDEN 39A , the extractor broke and a gunsmith made one that was solid not a spring with a hook on it ! I love that old gun killed a lot of ground hogs before someone told me i needed a 22-250 !

HuntAway,

My uncle had one that was my grandfathers and was supposed to be an heirloom but who knows what happened to it after he died. But anyways it was an awesome shooter and god only knows how old it was too. We used to sit out in the yard and shoot walnuts all day long with very few misses out to about 50 yards. You made a good purchase in my opinion and I am jealous. I would own one too if I could afford it.

navylawdog, I'm really looking forward to shooting this rifle. My postal tracking number indicates that it should be here today or tomorrow. I've been saving my pennies for a long time for this one. I've always wanted a lever .22 and soon it will become a reality. ;D

I bought mine a few months ago and love it. I've only put about 500 rounds through it so far and am thinking it needs a trigger job.
I have discovered that it dislikes federal ammo, but shoots well with CCI mini-mag, and Win super-speed.
My target groupings so far have been with factory open sights and the best I can manage is about 1.5" at 50 yd, but I think a good trigger will improve that, as would a scope or peeps if I decide to go that route.
You will also find its a man sized rifle to handle, I'm actually thinking I might be comfortable with about 1" off the butt end as well.
