New .243 Rossi
« on: March 07, 2007, 06:48:06 AM »
Just bought one of the .243 single shots last night and found this forum.  Great info!!! Kinda wish I would have found it earlier but that's besides the case.

I was wondering what people are using for ammo out of this gun...what works and what doesn't.  Just somewhere for me to start.  With the 1 to 10 twist I am thinking the smaller bullets will work better but if there are some 100gr'ers that work...let me know!  I already sanded the forearm and installed the o-ring.

Thanks

P.S....just spoke with the Rossi folks...my gun was made in 2005 and they no longer have any plans to do the barrel thing.

If your .243 shoots as good as my Rossi .223 then you will really like it.I have had various Handi rifles and just happened to run across a deal on the Rossi .223.To my way of thinking they are as good as the Handi Rifles.
Try various ammunition bullet weights to see what your particular rifle likes.Let what the rifle shoots most accurately govern your choice.

First off welcome to the forum CRDNLPLT.   Stan has some valid advice but buying several brands & weights of ammo can get costly.  Unfortunately I do not have any experience with a Rossi in this caliber so I could not give you a clue as to where to even begin.  However, I can offer a suggestion.  If you do your shooting at a gun club or public range be sure to go on a Saturday or whatever is their busiest day when there are better odds of others shooting .243s there and ask fellow shooters if they would be willing to trade a hand full of whatever ammo you brought for a handful of theirs.  Good luck and don't forget to give us a range report.

That's a difficult question to answer.  My understanding is that Rossi have several frame sizes and I have no idea what frames are compatible with what calibers.   Also I could not tell you if their shotgun frames are the same as their centerfire rifle frames or if the shotgun frames are strong enough to handle centerfire calibers.  Rossi probably decided to pull the plug on the program before it ever got off the ground do to all the variables involved.
