Question on 45-70 brass ?
« on: March 01, 2007, 05:52:13 AM »
I am thinking of making a short fat bottle necked wildcat using 45-70 brass, the problem is the internal cannelure in the brass causes a crease when you neck it down.
Does anyone know of a brand of brass that doesnt have a cannelure, the only brand I have now to play with is WW and it has a cannelere.  Thanks !!

I think Starline cases are smooth. You could also start with 7.63X54R, it's about the same in the head and rim and already necked.

[NOT .38/55 on the .30/30 rim] is on the .45/70 rim, same length and not likley to have a cannelure. If you can find it.  .40/65 too.  luck.

I saw some new Remington cases yesterday, they were smooth too.

Remington cases are still available with the cannelure, Win brass doesn't have it.
