Hello
This past Saturday I got to the range, to shoot the Handi 22-250 with my reloads. My son went along and he shot some of the strings as well as myself. All shooting was done from a bench on sand bags. The day was sunny, temps in the mid to high 70s, and a wind gust now and again.
The loads were Hornady 50 Gr.V-Max, over H-4895, CCI BRLR primers, and Winchester once fire cases trimmed to 1.907”. The COL is 2.460”, which is .110” over COL Max. The powder charge for this bullet powder combo starts at 30.0 Gr and maxis out at 35.4 Gr. I loaded 20 rounds starting at 30.3 and, going .5 Gr heavier every 4 rounds. We shot at 50yds.with these, but moved out to 100yds with some factory Winchester 45Gn JHP. I started by shooting two factory rounds to foul the barrel and then started to shoot 4 round strings waiting about 2 minuets between shots. Of the strings shot the last two were the best the middle string was the worst. Charge for the best was 31.8Grs, with 3shots @ .310” and the fourth opened it up to .800” worst was 31.3Grs @ 3”, I wish I would of loaded more but time was not on my side. I will keep going to find a better recipe, will start at 31.8 and work up to the max. Below are the two targets we shot using the reloads. This rifle is starting to shoot very well. I wonder if any one else shot Winchester 45Gr JHP in their 22-250 Handi, and their thought on this ammo? It seems quit hot, the empty cases look to have the primers flatten out pretty good, but they shoot well. As the session wore on the sun was beginning to affect our shooting at 100yds with spots in the scope, I believe a sunshade would have helped. Is there a place were I could buy just a sun shade for this scope; problem is I do not know who manufactured it, all I know is it is 50 objective and is threaded. Thanks Tim
for the suggestions as to a bullet powder combo for my 22-250 looks like it is going to be a winner.
Have a great day
