Bullberry 10" barrel question
« on: September 19, 2005, 04:44:35 AM »
I am looking at getting a 17HMR barrel and have been looking at Bullberry barrels.  I was planning on getting a 10" or 11".  I was wondering if they do or if you can have a second barrel screw on to be able to use a hanger bar system?  It seems as if 10" barrels only have the one forend screw.
Thanks

I once owned a 10" 357 Bullberry and it had 2 forend anchoring points just like the Super 14 barrels.

My 10" .45LC barrel from Fred has two screws, and I use a BB hanger.

By the way, You will absolutely LOVE your 17HMR.  I just got mine from Fred on Friday and put 100+ rounds through it.  IT'S AWESOME!  Like 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards awesome!
I never thought I'd have so much fun shooting.  I got a 22 years ago for plinking and such, but now this is my new plinking gun.  Mainly because it can reach out and hit (with deadly accuracy) whatever's around you out to 150+.  I nailed a pigeon sitting on a deserted tin roof out in the field I shoot and saw nothing but a PUFF of feathers.  I found feathers and a foot.
Not the round I'd suggest for meat hunting rabbits but can still get'em.  Out here in New Mexico, the jackrabbits run off and don't stop till they are 100+ yards out.  I can carry a tripod with a sandbag on top and have a FULL $10.00 worth of fun per box.
I got the 12 inch with the hangerbar system.  Although I don't have a stock to fit it, I pulled the bar off and just used it the old fashion way with a wooden forend I had.  Only trouble was the dovetails Fred had cut in this one was about 1/16 of an inch too far back to fit the stock perfectly.

Consider that Fred is making a barrel from a basic blank.....he will cut in dovetail nuts at whatever spacing your want. Typically either Super 16 or 14 spacing. All of the Contender hanger bars I have....either VVCG or BB are slotted to allow for some adjustment fore and aft.

i bought 2 more barrels from Bullberry last month...a 10" .22 Mag match & a 12" .357 Mag match..and like the others i've bought in the past, fit finish & function was great, and accuracy was phenomenal..the .357 does 3 shots cloverleafs at 25 yards with all 4 of the loads i 've tried so far, and out at 50 was keeping 5 shots onto a quarter-sized group. You'll be well pleased with that barrel.

almost forgot..ex-Cajun was right, the HMR is blast in short tubes, mine is a 12" by SSK & they are rough on squirrels if you like them to eat, but as a small varmint round out to 125 or so its tough to beat...near centerfire performance & range but without the blast or reloading hassle/cost.
