Need help finding some "See Through" scope mounts for my 336.

Hi Everyone,
        I have a 336W 30/30.  I love my rifle and I have a Nikon 3-9 on top of it.  I also happen to love that scope.  Right now I have weaver (I think) mounts that use 4 screws on each one of the mounts.  That's 8 screws total to hold the scope still and I'd like to find something a little bit better than that.  I thought Leupold was going to come out with some see through scope mounts for the 336 but maybe I was wrong.  Anyway, I was hoping you all could direct me to what options are available for some "see through" mounts.  I need to find something better than what I've got because I think the scope keeps moving on me.

I've had really good luck with the Weaver Quad rings. I currently have them holding a Bushnell Banner scope on my 336. Holds the zero very well.
Are you sure the problem is with the rings and not the rail to receiver connection?

I have also had really bad experience with see through rings. I find them to be much too high to use on a rifle like a Marlin 336. There is too much drop at the comb. I would really need a monte carlo stock to use those rings, and then I wouldn't be able to see the open sights.
I've never used the quick detachable style scope rings but I have been told that they work very well and give you the opportunity to remove the scope quickly to use the sights. They say you can remount the scope and it comes back very close to zero.

See thru rings are an abomination, please do yourself a favor and forget them. If you want the best rings out there get yourself some Burris Signature rings.

See through rings can make you hate that scope when it smacks you in the forehead. If you want them for close shots get a lower power scope say a 1.5 to 6, or a 2 to 7. Bob A is correct about the comb not being right for either sights.

I always thought Sara Brady invented see through rings just to hurt shooters. LOL!

I shot a Marlin 336 in 30-30 for about 25 years worth of deer hunting.It had a Weaver 1.5X4.5X20 scope on Quik-Site see thru rings.I never had a problem with it not being accurate or not being able to get a good sight picture thru the scope.On several occasions I was able to bag a deer right at dusk using the iron sights when you could not see good enough to properly place your shot using the scope.
It is all a matter of what works for you and what you feel comfortable with.

You are a lucky guy, Stan.  Most of us need a proper cheek weld to be consistent and accurate with a scope.  See thru rings raise the scope so high off the receiver that for most people the scope is in a different place in relationship to our eyes each time we mount the gun.  And the small area we need to look through to see the iron sights restricts our ability to see the target as well.  See through rings are a compromise at best.  Kind of the worst of both worlds.  If they work for you great.  They don't work very well for most folks.  I have a bucket full of them I have replaced for folks when they got tired of missing and wondering why.

Quick Release or Detach mounts and rings are a better alternative to "see through" mounts if you sometimes need to use your iron sights.

Leupold does make see through mounts and rings.  I wouldn't bother with any see through system myself.

my father swore by them and wouldnt have a gun set up without them. He claimed he needed them for close up shots at running game and if his scope fogged up. Well scopes dont fog up much anymore and i did a litte test with him at camp we rolled a tire down a small incline with a target in the center of it. 3 guys shooting and every one did much better using the scope then they did with open sights and this is a bunch of guys that dont shoot much or practice with there scopes. When an animal is moving you dont have time to think about what sight set your going to use if you take that second to decide the animal will be gone anyway. Buy a good fixed 2 power scope or mount a pistol scope as a scout rifle setup and you will have the fastest sight for the average guy. I can shoot a peep a little faster and dont care for scopes on levers but its a looks thing and not a pratical thing. Truth be told there hard to beat on any rifle.

I would forget the see through mounts also. One they put the scope to high and some scopes run out of adjustment and second, it puts the scope to high and makes for an awkward position you need to put your head to see out of the scope correctly. Make up your mind weather you want a scope or iron sights. In my opinion they are worthless.

I tried the see thru mounts on my 336 and after two trips to the range I took them off and put the low mounts back on. Borrow a set and try them, but I doubt that you'll like 'em. In fact if you live anywhere near me in Florida send me an e-mail and you can try mine.

I already have the see through sights on mine, I was just looking to see if anyone knew of any better ones.  After reading all of this I think I will be taking them off.  Apparently I'm not the only guy out there having problems with them so I don't feel so bad now.  I think I'm going to put a regular weaver style mount on it and some Leupold quick detach rings on it.  I've used those rings before on an AR-15 and they work well if you like to switch back and forth between iron sights and a scope.

Quick correction to what I wrote earlier, I have used the Burris quick release scope rings, not the Leupold.  Using the quick detach Burris rings on the top of my AR-15 I have taken the scope off and put it back on enough times to see that it will shoot almost exactly the same as it did before I took it off.  I really like system, I'll be picking up a regular weaver mount and the quick release rings tonight if it's on the shelf.
