I'm not too versed in any of this and probably don't know much of anything, but I did find it interesting that the board really recommended the .276. Was that caliber size and then also the shell size better equipped for semiauto technology of the day? Would it have cycled better? been more accurate? held more rounds? held rounds in a different manner than the enbloc clip?
I understand the desire and $$ reasoning to stay with the .30 cal, but why was the board so inclined to adopt a new cartridge?
I can't imagine the Garand any other way, but who knows how it could have been?
