loads for the 25-06 (factory or handloads)
« on: April 30, 2007, 05:49:17 AM »
Back at the first of the year I got a great deal on a 25-06 SB2 (SN - NW***...) I got this to be a long range varmint gun as I put a 6-24x56 glass on top w/ Mil-Dot so I can learn to use that optics platform.

I'm just getting back into reloading after about 20 yrs. and my Cabela's Christmas brought me a Lee Anniversary Reloading Kit.  I know every barrel will have its own diet but I wanted to see what was working well in your 25-06s. If you use factory that's fine too as that is where I've started. If any of you 25-06'ers don't reload I'd be interested in your brass.

My first reloads are just to get me back into the swing of reloading plus the local gun shop had a very limited supply of bullets and only had 85gn BT so I parked them over 43gns of Varget. I hope to get to the range soon to see how they work.

Also please share any ins and out you may have had with your 25-06 Handi.

Thanks
Smoky

I have good luck with using Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertips in all of mine..Here's the first shots thru a nice  birthday present I got a couple years ago.....
I've used these in all of my 25-06 Ulta's...and they shoot very good...just don't mix different bullets types with any of the coated bullets..you'll get erratic accuracy if you do..

My 25-06 likes all of the hornady bullets from 60gr to 117 gr. It really likes the sst bullets.  Going from the top of my head here, but IMR 4320 powder.  Don't remember the weight.

Enjoy.  These are usually some of the best shooting barrels NEF has to offer.

Smokey, my Ultra loves Federal 115gr Nosler Partitions and Hornady 117gr BTSP, it shoots the first two almost into the same hole, the 3rd opens the group to just less than 1". I have handloads for it using the 115gr CT Ballistic Silvertips, but haven't been to the range with em yet.
