Cant get barrels for my H&R

I just purchased two single shot rifles because it was explained to me that you can send the receiver in and get additional barrels. I purchased a .223 from cabelas for $249. A day later while at Dicks they had a 22.250 on clearence for $129 so for that price I grabbed it if not just for the receiver. i called today to confirm what barrels they had as I was looking to get a .243, 25-06, 7-08 and 30/30. They told be that none are in stock and to call abck in a couple of mnths to see if they might have stock. I dont see how if they dont have stock now they will when deer season comes around in most areas and more people are looking for barrels. Very dissapointed with my findings. Anyone else go through this previously and how long was the shortage?

Welcome! Their priority is selling complete firearms, so any new barrel runs are dedicated to those instead of acc barrel, you'll find plenty of those complete firearms available with the exception of the 30-30, Bud's has all of them in stock. Due to the plant closure at Gardner and subsequent move to Ilion, H&R production was cut way back for 2009 and they're just now getting caught up. Unfortunately the closure of the Marlin plant may take a toll on H&R production since they make all of their barrels for them, on the upside, Ilion has a new barrel plant coming online sometime this year which should help a lot with availability of acc barrels.

I got a new .444 barrel fitted last month. Maybe they have a few more left? It would make a good deer rifle. It worked out to about 5 wks. door to door, $145 total for a new very well fitted barrel. They also replaced some internal parts, no charge, the trigger feels better to me. I didn't request any of that, but it seems good.
