Your favorite .204 round

What .204 round do you like to use for fox on down or range shooting?

For fox size game and down I prefer the 32 gn. Sierra. I get better accuracy with them at higher velocities than I do the Hornady`s, but better groups with lite loads with the Hornady`s. Both have to thin a jacket for coyotes.

not likely that any thing traveling at 4000 plus feet per second will be a real good "pelt saver" on a fox tho.

If that is your goal you may consider some less destructive rounds.

I mainly bought that caliber for groundhogs. Its a good thing theres lots of different animals out there , everytime I want a new gun I just pick an animal and tell my wife I need a new gun . Of course I'm the boss though

Ok , so help me out on the .204's capability to take coyotes?  Will it? I have now read a post where a guy said he hit a coyote , 32 grain bullet...and it just kept getting up ...so , exactly what DOES it take to kill one?
I have shot them with a .243, and a .223......but when you look at ballistic downrange energy of the .223 and the .204...at 300 yards....not a ton of difference.   So , please educate me on the top end capability of my .204 before I waste time shooting at a Kevlar yote.

39 grain Sierra Blitzking on top of 30 grains of BL-C2.  Not exactly sure of the speed, but is supposed to be in the neighborhood of 3,800 to 3,900 fps.  Not too sure of what kind of performance you will get on a fox, but this weekend it vaporized about 14 ground squirrels, and many guys use these bullets on coyotes.

I like the 32 grain Hornady V-Max.
With Factory loads, I can get 3/8 inch groups at 100 yards.
With my reload 23 grains of IMR 4198, I can get just slightly smaller groups.
Some suggest that this is not a coyote load, but I have personally taken coyotes out beyond 300 yards with it.
Hit in the middle of the ribs, the largest exit wound was less than a dime.  But, most shots didn't exit.

Question for those of you who do NOT re-load.......where do you get your ammo.....( .204) , and who has the best deal  in bulk ammo?     I would like to buy 204 in the dry bx 200 rounds or 250 .....NOT just the bullets...I want to be specific about that .   Thanks

I bought a couple hundred rounds from Wisconsin Cartridge http://wisconsincartridge.com/  They are 204 Ruger 40 gr V-Max @ 3700 fps.  I notice that they are currently sold out.  These are reloads in once fired brass.  I found them reasonably priced and accurate enough for prairie dog shooting.  I was getting hits out to 300 yards if I held still and the wind wasn't too bad (had gusts up to 25mph that day).

Keep checking their website or email them to check on availability.  Come to think of it, I need to get some more ordered.

40gr nosler balistic tip, sitting on top 26grs Imr4895, shoots just under 1/2 moa at 100yds, and in the 2 1/2in range at 400yds. im shooting a savage m12 bvss.

Kills coyotes with ease, and leaves clean entrance and exits, pelts stay very nice.

My coyote hunting buddy and I both shoot .204's, mines a CZ 527 American and his is a CZ Varmint. We've shot several coyotes with the Berger 35 grain HP match. So far we've never had one exit. My gun starts it out at 3800 fps and his Varmint gun, with a 4" longer barrel, starts the 35 grainer out at about 3950 fps. I think that the V-Max's and the Sierra's, especially the 32 grain ones, have to thin a jacket and have a bad habit of blowing up on the surface, with little penetration. On the other hand I've never heard of that problem with Bergers, eather the 35 grain or the 40 grain version. Just depends which one your gun likes best. Try 'em, I'm sure you'll like them.
