Waiting Again!!
« on: March 12, 2007, 04:02:54 PM »
I sent a frame off to H&R saturday afternoon by priority mail, they got it at 10am this morning!! Ordered a .444 Marlin barrel and a checkered camo laminate stock set, wonder how long it will be before they put a barrel on it, any bets guesses  on when I'll get it back?? :D

Hey Quick I have an idea. I am going to start a poll. We can vote on when we think you will get your gun back. I think it might be fun. What do you think. ;D

Naw, I was just kidding in light of the recent waits and the fact that the barrels are just now being made by Marlin, it might be even longer than recent waiting. :D

I thought there were some reservations by a few here
on the board about the 444's twist rate and or bore being oversized?
Have things changed with the QC at H&R or NEF in the 44 dept?

Marlin stepped in and changed the twist rate to 1:20" with broached rifling, barrel production was scheduled to start this week by Marlin.

Quick,

How do you order stocks and forends from NEF/H&R?  I checked their web site but couldn't find any listings or prices for stocks.

What was your choice on the stock Quick, straight or Monte?
Will you be having a sight put on the tube or a rail for a scope?
I'm guessing that for those of us without an FFL, we would need to have
a special order like this shipped to a dealer to do the transfer.
Man a 444 with 1-20 twist sounds like a 150 yard dead on thumper with cast.

No FFL needed, they are an FFL, the frame is already in your name, you own it, barrel order instructions are on their web site.

Monte carlo, of course, it comes with a scope rail, my old eyes don't like H&R iron sights which would cost another $50, they'd be worthless to me! ::)

Nice collection there Quick. How long have them be following you home now? They seem to be breeding like rabbits. I guess I better go on out and buy me a Handi, as I don't yet own one. After a few rounds through it guess I can ship her off for the 444 if there going to be grinding them 1-20's soon. -g

I've not been collecting them all that long, first one was when I was a kid, dad gave me an old H&R 12ga that was made in the 20s from all I can tell, next one was a 20ga Pardner in '91, no rifles until 2004, started with a .223 Ultra Varmint, then a .45-70, then a couple accessory barrels, .243 and .25-06, and ...... ;D

If you get a used Handi, make sure the frame serial number prefix is HN or NN or later, 1999 is the oldest they'll fit the .444 barrel to, the barrels listed on the acc barrel list that are marked with an *, mean they're high pressure calibers and they'll only fit them to frames made 1999 or later. ;) The .444 is one of em!! ;D

For the most part, lately they've been doing much better than they were the first of the year, the only hold up on the 444 barrel was it's new, Marlin just rifled the barrels not too long ago, so I feel fortunate to get it this soon!! :)

Tim,
It would probably be easier on H&R Customer service if you just called them and had them send you one of everything!
