Finally decided on new glass
« on: April 24, 2007, 09:08:32 AM »
I finally decided on what kind of glass is going on my Savage MLII. I bought a Bushnell Elite 3200 in 2-7x32 in matte finish. I looked through them all in all price ranges and all magnifications and liked this the best. It is clear and compact(I want to keep the weight down) and I don't like high powered scopes. I shoot a Bauch & Lomb Balvar in 1 1/2-6 x 32 on my 223 and love it. I did not get the bases and rings yet. Should work well.

I have 4 3200's and really do like them... your 2x7 should serve you really well...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

I hope you can get the scope positioned where you need it for the proper eye relief.  I bought a set of Burris DD Reversible bases for mine and was going to use my Leupold 2-7 scope.  I could not get the scope far enough back unless I used the Reversible base on the front and turned it around so that it stuck out over the bolt which I did not want to do.  I ended up putting my 3-9 Leupold on it since the main tube is much longer and then I just barely have the proper eye relief.  I think you will need some kind of Reversible or Extension ring to make it work.  Let me know how it turns out.

There are several one piece mounts available with multiple slots for Weaver-style rings, allowing a lot of latitude for mounting position of the scope.  I'm not sure if there would be enough room under the mount to allow easy priming of the gun though.  You'd have to get one and try it to see if it works for you.

I mounted the scope on Weaver 2 piece Grand Slam bases and Medium Grand Slam rings and it came out great. I have about 1/2" of movement ahead and 3/4" back . I am pleased with these mounts. Have never used Weaver Grand Slam before. Like them a lot.
