« on: April 30, 2007, 08:29:52 PM »
Need to up-grade to a faster production press for 45ACP. Any feed back on this press?

ive got 5 of them and love them. They will load circles around my 550. Only drawback to them is that its a little slower to change calibers on them then it is on a 550 and you cant load rifle rounds on them. I guess if a guy bought a 550 and put a case feeder on it you could load about as fast as a square deal without one but for the money youd have in it you could buy two square deals and leave them in two differnt calibers. Thats what i do. Ive got 5 of them set up in the calibers i use the most. If dillon would come out with a case feeder for a square deal it would make that little press faster then the 650! The stroke to operate one is about half what it is on a 650. There not quite as sturdy as a 550 or 650 but there sturdy enough for handgun loading. Ive loaded hundreds of thousands of rounds on them and have had to rebuild a couple and even had one main frame crack in half but the round count on that press was around a million rounds and i guess it doenst really matter because as usuall dillion replacted everythng for free anyway.

Lloyd:

You should become a salesman for Dillon. What makes the Square Deal faster than the 550? Maybe I should have got the Square Deal instead of the 550 because I only use mine for one caliber.  About how many rounds of 45ACP can you make per hour with the Square Deal?

Back to the original question, they are very highly regarded. I just don't own one.

Thanks.

I've been using one for years for 45acp and 9mm. Great press. I can load 300 an hour without breaking a sweat.   KN

what makes the faster is they auto index and the stroke lenght on the press is about half what it is on a 550 or 650. I shake my head at Brian Enos sight when he claims the 550 is faster then a square deal. Load on a square deal for a couple hours and switch to a 550 and its like loading in mud. If you want something faster then a square deal you need to step up to a 650 WITH a case feeder and i can buy 3 square deals for the price of one of them.

I bought my square deals a long time ago.  I just recently started having trouble with one of them indexing.  They supplied me with a few new parts for free, and when that didn't fix it, they just told me to box it up, send it back, and they will fix it for free.

You can't beat that deal.

Lloyd:

Well! You learn something every day! Thanks for the insight into the Square Deal. Wish I had gotten one instead of the 550 now. Of course I don't have any complaints about the 550 either.

you really didnt make a mistake. The 550 is a stronger press and more versitile as you can load anything short of a 50bmg on it. The square deals arent as stout and ive found a little more finiky to keep running when doing high volumes. Wish i had the money to have 6 1050s sittling on the bench that would cure everything except the the bullet hole in my head from the old lady
