scope rings and zeroing problems
« on: April 29, 2007, 07:49:00 AM »
I just got an all weather MKII in 30.06.  I have a Leupold Rifleman 3x9 on it with the funished integral scope rings from Ruger.  In orfer to get it zeroed I had to move the internal adjustments in the scope so far to the right that it is only 2 inches away from the maximun adjustment at 100 yds.  Ruger said the reciever may not have been cut right.  I think it may be more related to the rings being cut wrong.  Afterall I think the reciever would recieve more care than a bolt and nut.  Ruger siad to sent the gun in but I think I should try different rings first.  What do you think???

I have a friend that has a Mini-14 that has a similar problem.  He was trying to sight it in this weekend and he had the scope cranked fully to the right and he was still about an inch short of being on target.  He also had it cranked just about all the way up.

When I read your post a thought occurred to me, what if you tried swapping the front and rear ring positions or turning one of the rings 180° and see if the point of aim changes.  Then you would know if the problem was in the rings, or you may find a position that works.

Ruger made the gun, they asked you to send it back so they could correct it...

Send it back so they can correct.....They know more about them then you do.

I worked for Deere for about 13 years...We had some programs called fix as fail...90% of the
farmers would never have a problem, but if we had a complaint in a certain serial number range
we were told to take care of it.

Seems to me that Ruger is just trying to make it right.

The Model 77 has front and rear rings. Make sure they are installed properly. If this is the case, send the rifle back. Ruger has been great on fixing the two problems I've had with their firearms.

The problem is quite possibly the rifle or rings, but it could also be the scope.  I'd try another scope if you have one.  Then if it behaves the same send it in to Ruger as requested.  If not, call Leupold.
