Anybody here shot or own the 6.8 SPC, and if so, how do you like it?

Yep i have one.I like it very much. The only thing is,i have it in a rifle conf.in a Encore. In a pistol i would highly recommend it.In the riflle cong.,with a 26" barrel it has a kick like a watered down 243.Very mild.I believe that in a pistol you would be very happy with the reselts. It is very efficent,in that you have less powder to burn, and is VERY accurate.I would not be afraid to shoot anything in NA,up to and includeing the black bears,WITH the rite bullet.Nosler Partitions,as an example.I know that many will say that a lot of Cal.,out there will do the same job,and there is.But myself,IMHO,i like it,and would recommend it to anyone, especially, recoil sentive shooters.pan.

Like panman, I too have it in the rifle Encore. I agree it would be excellent in the pistol setup. I had to handload since I could not buy factory loads. Zeroed in on a sweet load combination using Sierra 110 bullets. Two white tail deer and a bobcat, one shot each. Little recoil. Fun and accurate to shot even with a dirty barrel.

I got one in a 14" g2. It took some time but i got it shooting 1.5 groups @ 80yrds with a red dot 2x scope. I had trouble with it at first, had to send it back to TC,they said they changed the mainspring. It had 1 out of 2 rounds misfiring. When i got it back it would misfire 1 out of 5 times. That was using hornady loaded ammo, as soon as i changed to Remington loaded ammo the problem went away completely. Now it's a great shooter.

A lot of the mil-spec rounds have hard primers that will not always go bang with a standard non military firearm. I have a 6.8 15" that shoots fine with H4895 and H322 loads and 100-110 and 150 gr bullets. I use the 150's for fire forming  since mine is a slightly improved cambering. Good round seems to be accurate and not fussy to load. Recoil is about like a full 357 mag load.

I hope its going to be a good round.  I just ordered one from Match Grade, a 12.5" heavy barrel.  Got brass, dies and some bullets on the way also.  Hopefully all should be here by the weekend..... :)

Do any of you that shoot this caliber use a 130 grain bullet, or is this too big?

I shoot 150 to fire form cases, slightly improved chamber in mine and  25/H4895/150 speer shot fine out of my barrel. I am not sure there is any advantage to using 150 except for silhouette . Probably would not do much in hunting fields but  worked great for fire forming.

The only down side i can see is it will recoil a little harder. If you hit a deer with one in a good spot, its a dead deer. The rate of twist is the same as the 270,and fires the same bullet,so,you should be fine, but keep in mind that you should start with a mild load and work up.pan.

I have a 6.8 in an AR format.  Before I bought it I did a lot of reading about people having success with it hunting.  I read stories about guys using it for mule deer, white tails, and everything smaller.  There's a lot of guys that like this round for hogs too.  I haven't read anything about somebody using it for black bear.  I'm sure it's happened but I just haven't read about it yet.  The 6.8 is very light recoiling round.  I think it's a great round and there are 16 different factory loads available on midway.

Howdy,
Bob Milek must be smiling. If you check the cartridge case dimensions, the 6.8 is basically a rimless .270 Herret. Since the case-trimming step is the worst part of making Herret brass, I'm thinking that the 6.8 case is the Contender wildcatter's dream.
The 6.8 just HAS to work great! I'm glad to see that you all are having success with it.

25 SPC or 7 SPC both are on my want list. 7SPC would be a lot like a 7US but it would be a good re chamber for all of those 10" 7those out there to get a little more pop. I have already asked one barrel maker about it but didn't get a response.

I second the idea of a 7mm SPC.  I still have 5 boxes of Hornady 120 SSP's from when I owned a 14" Hunter in 7-30 Waters.

concerning the question as whether 130 grain bullets are too heavy for the 6.8 SPC,..In the first magazine article I read about the cartridge Layne Simpson used 130 grainer to kill a caribou.  I find the 130 grainers shoot well enough in my rifle, but the lighter weights seem to expand better..I have found the 100 grain Speer Hot-Cor bullet to be my rifle's favorite..but of course, it seems the bullet has been discontinued!
